Summer is the time for vacations, when planning which you need to take into account a number of nuances associated with organizing a good vacation. One of the nuances that people usually think about when planning a vacation is the purchase of insurance services.

Vacationers within the Russian Federation do not need any special services. Is it worth considering the insurance of your apartment / house and the property located in them. If necessary, medical services can be obtained under the compulsory medical insurance policy. If you have a valid VHI policy, you need to consult with the insurer about the presence of included clinics in the desired region.

For those traveling outside our vast homeland, the acquisition of insurance services may be necessary. Thus, a number of states, which, in particular, include all the countries of the Schengen zone, indicate that one of the required documents for applying for a visa is the medical insurance policy, which, according to established practice, is called the VZZ policy. Tourists who love to travel in their own car will definitely need a liability insurance policy – “Green Card”.

With the Green Card, everything is more or less clear. The mechanism of this policy is similar to our CTP. Compensation limits vary, depending on the country of the party to the agreement in which the accident occurred, in a huge range – from several thousand dollars in Iran, Belarus and Ukraine to 100 million euros in Belgium. Some countries do not set limits on payments in case of harm to life and health, and some (Luxembourg and Tunisia) do not limit payments on property damage. The agreement involves virtually all European countries, as well as a number of North African countries.

The current list of countries covered by the Green Card agreement, as well as existing payment limits, can be found on the PCA website . The Green Card policy may be requested at the border crossing. For the lack of a policy, a number of countries provide for serious penalties. Description of actions in case of an insured event and receipt of compensation is a separate topic. I just want to note that in a collision outside of our country of two vehicles registered in the Russian Federation, the limits established by the law on compulsory motor liability insurance will apply . In Russia, the Green Card insurance rules are regulated by law. Only ten insurers are entitled to conclude Green Card agreements , and IC Kompanion temporarily has this right deprived . If you have a valid motor hull insurance policy, you need to make sure that the country you are going to is included in the insurance territory, and if not, make changes to the contract.

With the VZZ policy, everything is somewhat more complicated. Clear requirements for such insurance are nowhere formalized, and different insurers may include different risks in the policy. Over time, the minimum volume of services that are included in such policies has developed on the insurance market. This is mainly dictated by the requirements that various embassies make when applying for a visa. To obtain a visa to the countries of the Schengen group, you will need a health insurance policy covering the entire period of stay in the Schengen zone, with the territory of insurance covering the whole Schengen. The policy must cover all expenses that may arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, emergency medical care, emergency hospitalization or the death of the applicant during his stay. Sum insured – at least 30 thousand euros.

Is it necessary to purchase an VZI policy when traveling to countries where its purchase is not mandatory when obtaining a visa? My answer is definitely yes. It’s no secret that medical services around the world cost very serious money. Not every traveler has such an amount in principle, not to mention the presence of such an amount with him during the trip. The cost of the VZR policy is not very significant, which can be seen using the calculator , but in some cases the presence of the policy will save a significant amount. The main thing is to clearly understand what service you are acquiring and how to act to receive it.

To purchase a high-quality VZR policy that is right for you, you need to:

1. Determine the necessary parameters of the policy of CDM.

Initially, you need to analyze the availability of requirements for such a policy in the country in which you are going to go. The sum insured and the list of insurance risks must at least comply with these requirements. When issuing a CDA policy in countries where such requirements are absent, insurers usually give recommendations on minimum insurance amounts that are based on the cost of medical services in the country. In any case, it is not recommended to purchase policies with an insurance amount of less than 30 thousand US dollars.

Consider the frequency of planned trips per year, since the purchase of an annual policy with an unlimited number of trips can ultimately cost less than the purchase of a policy for each trip. It should be noted that in long-term policies there is usually a restriction on the maximum duration of one trip.

Determine whether during the trip you plan to engage in any extreme sports or ride on vehicles other than a car. If you plan, then it is imperative to expand the contract coverage. Most of the “standard” VZR policies do not compensate for incidents that occurred even during one-time activities such as skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, or when driving or riding as a passenger on water scooters, scooters, mopeds, and yachts.

Also, “standard” VZR policies exclude expenses associated with complications of pregnancy or a chronic disease. If you are planning a vacation during pregnancy or have a chronic disease that may worsen, be sure to include the appropriate condition in the contract.

2. Examine the cases covered by the VZI policy and supplement them based on your needs.

Typically, VZR policies provide for the reimbursement of the following types of expenses:

· Expenses for medical services (for outpatient and inpatient treatment) arising from an accident or sudden illness, as well as medications prescribed by a doctor;

· The cost of transportation of the insured to a medical institution that can provide the necessary assistance, and in case of death – the cost of repatriation;

· Transportation expenses for travel of children who were left without guardianship in the event of the insured’s illness to the country of residence, as well as travel expenses for a round trip of a close relative if the insured requires long-term treatment and care;

Dental care for acute inflammation or injury. For some insurers, dental care costs are limited separately by a small amount.

Depending on the specific needs and concerns of the traveler, the VZR policy can be supplemented with additional coatings:

· Accident insurance. Depending on the injury received, some part of the established insurance amount will be compensated;

Baggage insurance In case of loss or damage of baggage during the flight, its cost is reimbursed within the limits established by the insurance rules;

· Travel cancellation insurance. Compensated expenses for the purchase of tickets, the cost of hotel reservations, etc. in case of cancellation of the trip due to sudden and unforeseen events;

· Civil responsibility. Damage is paid to third parties who have suffered from unintentional actions of the insured;

· Flight delay. The cost of meals and temporary accommodation at the hotel is reimbursed due to the delay in regular flights.

3. Examine the exceptions.

It is important to understand that sudden events, and not planned treatment, are covered by the VZR policy. And the service is provided to citizens who find themselves in another country temporarily, and not moved to permanent residence. VZR policies suggest a significant number of exceptions, both objective and not so. Before concluding an agreement, it is recommended that you carefully read the insurance rules for the stated exceptions. A striking example of exceptions are cases that occurred while intoxicated. Often from the wording in the insurance rules it does not follow that the state of intoxication should be the cause of the event. Only a few insurers offer such a limitation for an additional fee. One of the standard exceptions are working trips associated with increased danger (construction, electrical work, etc.).

4. Choose an insurer.

The choice of an insurer for the purchase of a VZR policy does not fundamentally differ from the choice of a Casco insurer, which we wrote about earlier . The main difference is the need to study the feedback about the service organization that provides services to the insured, as VZR insurers usually use the services of a special service company to provide services for resolving losses, which they will have to interact with when an insured event occurs. The name of the service company and its contact numbers are usually disclosed on the insurer’s website or are attached to the policy.

PS When you purchase a comprehensive travel service from a tour operator, an OZZ policy is usually included in the price of the ticket. It can be difficult to choose the parameters of an insurance policy or refuse it with a decrease in the cost of a ticket. In this situation, depending on the parameters of the “included” insurance, you can think about purchasing a separate policy.

A number of banks provide VZR policy from partner insurers as an additional service by credit card. The availability of such a service can save money on the purchase of an VZR policy.

The optimal procedure for the occurrence of an insured event will be disclosed in one of the following “Insurance Tips”.
